Haynes will be playing “Wolf,” Jerry’s first custom guitar, which was crafted by renowned luthier Doug Irwin, on the entire run. The tour features GRAMMY®-winning vocalist/guitarist Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers Band, Gov’t Mule) performing original Garcia compositions and timeless standards that were hallmarks of Garcia and the Grateful Dead’s shows with some of the country’s most respected symphonies and a band assembled especially for the outing. The Joshua Light Show, which performed at dozens of Grateful Dead concerts at New York City’s Fillmore East, is also on the bill this evening.
Tonight the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration Featuring Warren Haynes – a groundbreaking orchestral adventure curated by the Garcia family – continues its eight-city tour with a concert at Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, PA with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. SiriusXM’s Grateful Dead Channel will air a special on GarciaLive Volume Two on June 26 at 9 AM ET, June 28 at 1 AM ET and June 29 at 3PM ET. Other highlights include a lilting “ Stop That Train, a bouncy “My Sisters and Brothers” and renditions of Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young,” “Tears of Rage” and – for the mesmerizing closing number – “Tangled Up in Blue.” The double album features the classic latter-era lineup of the Jerry Garcia Band – Jerry Garcia (vocals, guitar), John Kahn (bass), Melvin Seals (organ), Jaclyn LaBranch (vocals), Gloria Jones (vocals) and David Kemper (drums).
The track is one of two on the album that features acclaimed banjo virtuoso B é la Fleck. The previously unreleased live recording captures the complete set performed by the Jerry Garcia Band on a perfect summer afternoon at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA.īeginning today, Jerry Garcia Band’s otherworldly take on the Jimmy Cliff classic “The Harder They Come” is streaming here.
